More Natural
Support Information for Heartworm Positive Dogs
HeartWorm Free™
will help your dog become heartworm negative all by itself, but if desired,
there are other natural supportive measures you can take to help strengthen and
boost your dog's
immune system which can help her or him
overcome heartworm disease more quickly and easily. Here are a few natural
supportive health care thoughts you can give to help your canine companion:
- Excellent nutrition
is always important. The stronger the immune system is the healthier
we and our companions are and the easier it is for us or them to overcome
disease. If you have not already considered doing so, feeding species
appropriate nutrition is excellent for your beloved canine companion.
Lots of information about feeding species appropriate raw food (SARF), bones
and raw food (BARF) or a more holistic "human grade" kibble for our
carnivorous canines can be found at our
Wolf Creek Ranch Animal Nutrition
webpage.
- Feed raw heart
- chicken, turkey, beef heart, etc. is excellent to nourish the heart in dogs that
have heart dis-ease, such as heartworm. Feeding raw heart will help
replenish some of the vital nutrients your dog's heart is lacking from the
heartworm infestation. And yes, IF your dog absolutely refuses to eat
it raw, you may cook it, but it is best to feed it raw. Some of our
client's advise once they started feeding the raw heart, their dog refused to
eat kibble!
- Hawthorn berries
- Hawthorn is already one of the excellent natural herbal ingredients in the
HeartWorm Free™
formula,
but you can supplement a little more in your canine friend's diet if
desired. Hawthorn strengthens and stabilizes the heart. We have
found hawthorn berries is one of the ONLY herbs our canines will willingly
consume. I like to grind the dried berries fresh or give them whole.
You can purchase hawthorn capsules, berries, tinctures, or extracts at many
health food stores. Please see our
Resources webpage for more info about the heart health benefits
of hawthorn.
- CoQ10 - has
excellent antioxidant properties and is excellent for heart support.
Some info about CoQ10, L-Carnitine, Taurine, Omega 3 Fatty Acids, & Vitamin
E is
Here.
- Food grade diatomaceous earth
- is an excellent natural way to eliminate all intestinal worms - rounds, whips, hooks,
tapeworms, so feed daily, it will keep your furry loved one (and you for
that matter) stronger and healthier.
If your dog has no intestinal worms, she/he will absorb the nutrients from her/his
food more fully which will help boost the immune system.

- Feed raw liver
- at least 2 to 3 days/week. Liver contains LOTS of Vitamin A which is
great for the immune system, skin, coat, lungs, etc., but most of all, liver
contains lots of iron which helps prevent anemia. It is common for
dogs infested with heartworm to get anemia, so providing a good natural source of
iron in their diet is important. Cook it if your dog won't eat it any
other way, but raw liver is best. IF you are concerned about liver
toxicity, you can purchase organic liver at a health food store.
- Give your dog distilled drinking water.
This will help keep unnecessary toxins out of your dog's diet.
- Give plant based vitamins and minerals.
This will give your dog the nutrients it needs to help recover.
Supplements that contain excellent vitamins and minerals such as
Organic Kelp, Spirulina, Chlorella.
- Exercise
will stimulate the circulation. Just do not allow your dog to over
exercise, such as breeding, racing, etc.
- Do NOT
vaccinate your dog while he or she has heartworms. Every vaccine vial advises
to NEVER vaccinate an unhealthy
being. When a dog has heartworm disease vaccines lower her or his
immune system.
- Give Apple Cider Vinegar
(ACV) in his or her food or drinking water. ACV contains lots of great
vitamins and minerals and has at least 101 health benefits - great for
arthritis, skin, coat, digestion, mange, parasite repellent properties, etc.
1 tsp. to 1 tbsp. 2x/day in food or water. ACV is excellent for people too!
- Proper HWF dose: Often, dogs infested with heartworm lose weight, as the heartworm infestation makes them less hungry and active. Most dogs gain weight while using
HWF™, as the heartworms are killed and the dog becomes more active, their appetite returns.
It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT
to make certain your dog is getting the proper
HWF™
dose, based on their weight. We recommend weighing dogs that are close
to the top of their dosage weight range at least once/week and once they
reach the next weight level dosage, start them on that proper dosage
immediately. Failure to do this can result in a longer treatment
time. So, please, weigh your dog regularly to make sure he or she is
getting the proper dose of
HWF™.
