Hawthorn - Modern research has proven hawthorn to be more valuable as an herb to treat cardiovascular problems and promote a healthy heart.  It causes more blood flow to reach the muscles of the heart.  hawthorn can also help to reduce the incidence of angina, which is a spasm of the blood vessels, improve the smooth muscle walls of the rest of the circulatory system, improve blood pressure, improving circulation and treating symptoms of mild heart failure, decreasing the occurrence of chest pain, reducing atherosclerosis, and helping with trouble sleeping.  hawthorn will not stop an angina attack.  Hawthorn is an herbal product.  It works by widening blood vessels, especially heart blood vessels, which results in increased heart blood flow.

Dandelion - Research has shown that dandelion works well as a diuretic, but the mechanism for its work is not understood.  Research in Germany showed that it helped to detoxify the body and stimulate the production of bile by the gall bladder.  Dandelion helps with water retention, regulation of blood glucose, upset stomach, urinary tract infections, kidney and bladder stones, liver and gall bladder complaints, and loss of appetite.

Alcohol -  Intensifies while preserving the properties of Hawthorn & Dandelion herbal tincture.

Distilled Water

Hawthorn & Dandelion is a natural organic herbal remedy demonstrated to strengthen and support the heart muscle, improve circulation and may be used as a diuretic.

The heart is a muscular organ responsible for pumping blood through the blood vessels by repeated, rhythmic contractions.  It is divided into four chambers, two on the left and two on the right.

The term "cardiac" (as in cardiology) means "related to the heart" and comes from the Greek kardia, for "heart".  The heart is composed of cardiac muscle, an involuntary muscle tissue which is found only within this organ.  Cardiomyopathy (cardio=heart, myo=muscle, pathy=disease).

The common heart diseases suffered by dogs and other animals, including humans, often lead to heart failure.  Dogs will generally suffer what is called Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), a relatively slow worsening of symptoms as the heart struggles to compensate for whatever defect or disease is present.  As the condition develops, it will affect all other organs in the body that rely on the efficient supply of nutrient rich blood.

Hawthorn & Dandelion has been developed to help strengthen your pet's heart.  It is best used in conditions such as heartworm.  Heartworm is a condition that can cause Congestive Heart Failure.

There are two common types of heart disease in canines

  • Type One - the dog's heart valves lose their ability to close properly, causing abnormal blood flow.
  • Type Two - the muscular walls of a dog's heart become thinned and weakened.

Both will develop gradually over time resulting in the same serious condition called heart failure.

Heart failure can happen to dogs of all ages.  In the young, this is typically the result of congenital abnormalties in the formation of the heart or blood vessels which surround it.  In older animals, it is usually a case in which one side or chamber is weakened or overworked due to altered circulatory patterns.

Of the dogs in the United States examined annually by a veterinarian, approximately 3.2 million have some form of acquired heart disease and may be in heart failure.

Signs of heart disease in dogs

Although some of the early stages of heart failure in dogs have no visible signs, heart failure can be diagnosed through a clinical evaluation by a veterinarian.

Symptoms of dogs with mild to moderate heart failure:

  • Heart enlargement
  • Lethargy
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Pulmonary edema which causes the animal to cough as to clear the lungs

Symptoms of dogs with severe heart failure include all of the above and:

  • Weakness
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Fainting
  • Profound intolerance to exercise
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
